Wells Fargo Stagecoach, Blue Devils coming to downtown Concord July 4

Family members of all ages will enjoy the annual 4th of July Parade and Festival in downtown Concord on Saturday July 4.

The festival begins at 8 a.m. in Todos Santos Plaza with a pancake breakfast hosted by Concord Diablo Rotary Club. Tickets are $5.

The Raymond Victor Band will take the stage from 10 to 11 a.m. and there will be square dancing before and after the band plays, all prior to the start of the July 4th parade.

The parade steps off at 11:30 a.m. from the Park 'N Shop Shopping Center on Willow Pass Road and circles Todos Santos Plaza. The plaza is bordered by Mt. Diablo, Salvio and Grant streets.

Start time for the parade is one-half hour earlier than in previous years. The Todos Santos Business Association is presenting the parade this year supported in part by Tesoro Refinery.

Special parade entry this year is the world-famous Wells Fargo Stagecoach, bringing back memories of Concord's early days when horse-drawn buggies and coaches paraded up and down Salvio Street.

The parade also features the international award-winning Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps B, as well as entries from a wide variety of community organizations.

Local blues singer Annie Sampson will sing the Star Spangled Banner and news anchor Ann Notarangelo of CBS5 will provide parade commentary from the reviewing stand.

The parade is televised live on Concord Cable TV, channel 28 (Comcast) and 29 (Astound).

Following the parade, activities continue in the plaza with more music from the Raymond Victor Band on the Todos Santos stage at 1 p.m.

Festivities in the plaza both before and after the parade include free jumpies and face painting for the children as well as crafters from throughout the Bay Area.

Ample free parking is available in the municipal parking garage on Salvio Street between Grant and Colfax streets and in the Todos Santos Parking Center at the corner of Concord Ave. and Salvio St.
