County's largest expo for seniors coming to Concord March 26
The largest senior citizen-related event in Contra Costa County history is coming to Concord in March. The event is free and open to the public.
The Senior Expo will be held on Friday, March 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 45 John Glen Drive in Concord.
While senior services are the focus of the expo, organizers also hope to attract family members to the event which is dedicated to addressing the needs of the aging population by providing educational seminars and a trade show for senior citizens and their families.
The expo is presented by the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, the City of Concord's Commission on Aging and the Concord Senior Center.
"We are connecting seniors with a community of people who care," says Brad Macy, chair of the Concord Commission on Aging. "We want everyone to spread the word and encourage friends and family to attend the Senior Expo."
The program will feature educators, service providers, manufacturers and retailers, and will focus on enhancing the lives of the population that is steadily growing older. Over 20 educational seminars will be offered on topics such as financial management, estate planning, recognizing dementia, hospice and home care, nutrition, fitness and wellness, housing and care decisions.
In addition, free screening will be available to participants. Screenings include medication review (AARP), vision screening (Lions Club of Pleasant Hill), oral exams (Dr. McCormick, DDS), blood pressure and pulse screening (Kaiser), balance test (John Muir Medical Center), and screening for osteoporosis (Foundation for Osteoporosis Screening).
"The expo is a special opportunity to bring together all facets of the Senior Community and to share opinions and experiences with residents of all ages," said Concord Senior Center Director Avis Connolly.
