August means free family movie nights in downtown Concord

Concord's Thursday Music and Market program adds free family movie nights after the concerts in the month of August.

The Beatles tribute band, the Sun Kings, kick off the series on Aug. 5 paired with the film "Rock 'n Roll Classics" that features a compilation of TV appearances by The Beatles, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and other stars from the era.

This year, Concord salutes the 60th anniversary of "Peanuts" with two Charlie Brown movies. On Aug. 12, it's "Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don't Come Back)." Music that night will be provided by Moonalice. On August 26, it's "Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown!" paired with musical guest Crunchy Frog. While the youngsters in this band may not be fully grown, their music is mature beyond their years.

The fourth movie night on Aug. 19, features Michael Jackson's concert film "This Is It" after a performance by the Michael Jackson tribute band "Foreverland."

Concord's free Thursday night music and market continues through Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. The Farmers' Market is in the plaza from 4 to 8 p.m.
