Tickets on sale for Senior Center's Hawaiian Fusion benefit

The 15th Annual Hawaiian Fusion fundraising event takes place Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Concord Senior Center, 2727 Parkside Circle. Tickets are now on sale.

Attendees will enjoy an evening of food and entertainment while supporting the Concord Senior Center's scholarship, transportation and special event programs. Proceeds help low-income seniors participate in a variety of educational classes and trips, a reduced taxi fare program, and special events such as the Health Expo and the Be A Santa To A Senior annual service project.

Entertainment will be provided by Te Mau Tamari'i A Tiare / Nā Kamali'i A Kiele, an award-winning Polynesian dance troupe specializing in Tahitian Ori and Hawaiian Hula. Kumu (teacher) Marlo Caramat has been championing Polynesian culture, music and dance for more than 20 years. Caramat's halau (dance troupe) has a reputation for having highly skilled dancers and is well respected in the Bay Area Polynesian community and aboard. The group has participated in Kauai's Tahiti Fete, Polynesian dance festivals in Merced and San Jose and several well-recognized hula festivals. The halau also performs at many Bay Area community events such as the Aloha Festival and World Ethnic Dance Festival, and San Francisco's and Oakland's Chinese New Year's festivals. The dance troop has over 150 students, all of whom are taught the dance, music, oli (chant), language and history of the Polynesian people, enriching dance practice with a better understanding of Hula and Ori Tahiti.

Tickets are $50 per person or $430 for a table of ten. All seats are reserved. The ticket price includes a lavish new Hawaiian-fusion buffet menu including huli huli chicken, roast piglet and macadamia crusted salmon. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with a no-host bar, and dinner begins at 5:15 p.m. The show is scheduled to get underway at 6:15 p.m. A Hawaiian Boutique is open from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
