Concord campaign wins international and national awards

The City of Concord recently received multiple awards for its campaign to attract businesses and young professionals to the city. The Better Fit for Business campaign won three International Davey Awards, two Telly Awards and an American Planning Association Award of Excellence. The City Economic Development staff worked with AMF Media Group on the Better Fit for Business campaign.

"Thanks to the leadership by the City Council in making economic development a primary focus over the last three years, Concord is reaching a regional, national and international audience," said Economic Development Manager John Montagh. "Our Better Fit for Business campaign leverages Concord's strengths, such as our excellent values in commercial real estate, two BART stations, and talented workforce, in changing the conversation about what constitutes a prime Bay Area business location."

Davey Awards were presented for the design of two ads used in print and in BART station displays that cleverly encourage businesses to consider Concord as a prime spot to relocate and grow a business. The Davey Awards are sanctioned and judged by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals. AIVA members include executives from organizations such as Condé Nast, Disney, GE, Microsoft, MTV, Publicis and Yahoo! among others. Award winners run the gamut and include well-known brands such as ESPN, Bell Helicopter, Chick-fil-A and Lincoln Motor Company.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 to honor excellence in local, regional and cable TV commercials. Today, the Telly is one of the awards most sought after by industry leaders, from large international firms to local production companies and ad agencies. The City's "A Better Fit for Business" and "East Bay Athletics" videos were recognized with Tellys. The award-winning videos, as well as others from the campaign, can be viewed here.

The Donald E. Hunter Excellence in Economic Development Planning Award, presented by The American Planning Association (APA), recognizes innovation and success in initiatives from across the U.S. The judging panel members noted that they were impressed with the campaign's innovative ideas, leveraging Concord's strengths and advantages, the strategy of using entrepreneurs as the spokespeople in campaign videos, creative ads and ability to show results of the initiative.
