Prepare your family for earthquake, natural disaster at Concord fair

Are you and your family prepared for an earthquake or other natural disaster? Plan to come to Concord's Emergency Preparedness Fair on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. to pick up useful information and free giveaways from local emergency service organizations.

The fair is being held in conjunction with Concord's Thursday Music and Market program in Todos Santos Plaza. The Farmers' Market is in the plaza from 4 to 8 p.m. The Next of Kin band and Whirl take the stage at 6:30 p.m.

The fair will feature representatives from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and Hazmat team, the American Red Cross, Contra Costa County Animal Services, the Salvation Army, Contra Costa County Public Health Division and Medical Reserve Corp., and the Concord Auxiliary Emergency Radio Services (CARES).

Demonstrations by citizen volunteers involved with Community Emergency Response Teams will be presented throughout the evening and automated external defibrillator (AED) training will be provided. An AED is a portable device used to assist victims of a heart attack.

For more information, contact Concord Volunteer & Emergency Services Coordinator Margaret Romiti, (925) 671-3184.
