Two road closures in downtown Concord, businesses open

Several streets in the downtown Concord area have been closed since Tuesday when a major structure fire destroyed the Renaissance II apartments under construction at 1825 Galindo St. The good news is that Galindo Street, a major thoroughfare, has been reopened.

Street closures are now limited to Willow Pass Road and Concord Boulevard for the three blocks between Galindo and Sutter streets.

Work continues on the burned-out construction site. Once it has been secured and there is no danger of the debris falling into the streets, Willow Pass Road and Concord Boulevard will reopen. The City of Concord wishes to thank everyone for their patience as work continues to secure the site.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to access Highway 242/I-680. Signage will be provided to direct drivers around the impacted area.

Restaurants and stores in the Park & Shop center and around Todos Santos Plaza are open for business and were not damaged by the fire. Events in Todos Santos Plaza are continuing as usual. The Tuesday Farmers' Market is in the plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Thursday evening market continues from 4 to 8 p.m. This Saturday's Diversity Festival will be in the plaza from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free parking is available on the street or in one of the two municipal parking garages on Salvio Street.
