Recycling for Kids


Seeing a connection between our actions and the health of the planet is tough for adults, let alone children. The way to involve children is to start early and lead by example. While shopping, involve them in choosing environmentally friendly products instead of harmful ones. Make recycling a part of everyday family life. The key to environmental awareness is involvement.

Organizations like Kids for a Clean Environment provide a way for kids to get together and act on environmental issues. Kids for Saving Earth is another Web site that provides environmental information for ages 3 to adult. Composting in the Classroom, sponsored by the City of Concord and seven others, taught 64 public school classes with 1,491 students last year.

Another way to raise everyone's environmental awareness is by visiting one of the many environmental centers like the Gardens at Heather Farms or Markham Nature Park and Arboretum Garden. You can volunteer for cleanup days and service projects. You will be surprised how your children will become more environmentally aware by living what they learn.
